The son of US President Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, has filed a legal action against former President Donald Trump, accusing him of orchestrating a smear campaign against him by stealing his laptop and leaking its contents to the media. In his complaint, filed in a federal court in California, Hunter Biden claims that Trump violated his privacy, reputation, and intellectual property rights.
According to the allegations, the former president hired a private investigator to break into Hunter Biden’s apartment in 2019 and steal his laptop, which contained personal and business information, as well as photos and videos of his intimate activities. The complaint also alleges that Trump conspired with his allies, such as Rudy Giuliani, Steve Bannon, and Garrett Ziegler, to disseminate the laptop’s data to various media outlets, such as The New York Post, Fox News, and Breitbart, in order to damage Hunter Biden’s image and influence the 2020 presidential election.
The complaint further alleges that Trump and his co-conspirators fabricated and manipulated some of the laptop’s data, such as adding emails that suggested Hunter Biden was involved in corruption and illegal deals with foreign governments, such as China and Ukraine. The complaint also accuses them of creating and spreading false and defamatory stories about Hunter Biden, such as claiming that he was addicted to drugs, that he fathered a child with a stripper, and that he was under investigation by the FBI.
Hunter Biden seeks an injunction that would prohibit Trump and his co-conspirators from accessing, using, or disclosing any of his data, as well as compensatory and punitive damages to be determined at trial. He also demands that they publicly apologize to him and retract all the false and defamatory statements they made about him.
Trump has not yet responded to the legal action, but he has previously denied any involvement in the laptop saga. He has also repeatedly attacked Hunter Biden and his father, calling them “corrupt” and “crooked”. He has also claimed that he won the 2020 election, despite losing to Joe Biden by more than 7 million votes.
