In a move that has caught the BRICS nations by surprise, Turkey has submitted an application to join the economic bloc, with the headline argument: “We bring the best kebabs!”
President Erdogan, in a statement that was equal parts baffling and hilarious, claimed, “Turkey’s culinary prowess will add a flavor to BRICS that they never knew they needed.” He went on to outline a five-point plan, which included “Kebab Diplomacy,” where economic negotiations would be conducted over a shared plate of döner.
The application has sparked a mix of reactions. Brazil, known for its own culinary delights, expressed skepticism. “We already have our feijoada; do we really need another meat dish?” questioned a Brazilian diplomat, while Russia seemed intrigued by the idea of a kebab summit. India, ever the diplomat, responded with, “We welcome all flavors, but perhaps we should focus on economic flavors first.”
China, however, was the most vocal. “We appreciate the… creativity,” a Chinese official said, trying to keep a straight face. “But perhaps Turkey could also bring something to the table besides a table full of kebabs?”
As the world waits for BRICS’ decision, Turkey has already started preparing a “Welcome to BRICS” kebab festival, just in case. “If diplomacy fails, at least we’ll have full bellies,” chuckled a Turkish chef.
