In a comical incident at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport, a 41-year-old passenger accidentally climbed into the cargo hold of a plane bound for Nice instead of boarding his scheduled flight to Marseille.
The unnamed man, running late for his Air France flight 567 to Marseille, panicked and decided to stow away in the hold of the nearest Air France plane, which happened to be heading to Nice.
“I just didn’t know what to do when I saw my flight was already leaving,” the passenger later lamented. “I thought if I could sneak into the luggage compartment, I could catch the next flight to Marseille.”
Unfortunately for the desperate traveler, the Nice-bound plane took off without ever realizing he was onboard. It wasn’t until the aircraft landed that the ground crew discovered the man, shivering and cramped, but otherwise unharmed.
Airport officials stated the incident caused nearly an hour’s delay as they dealt with the unexpected passenger. The man was arrested and faces charges of trespassing and interfering with a flight crew.
“I still can’t believe I ended up on the wrong plane,” the exasperated passenger said. “I was so close to making my flight, and now I’m in Nice instead of Marseille. What a nightmare.”
